Registration Policy

All interested players must complete the registration process through our online portal.

  • Registration closes 72 hours before your scheduled session.
  • All players must register, regardless of desired level (ECNL RL, Premier, or Select).
  • Current players must re-register each year.

Evaluation Process

ECNL RL (Invitation Only)

For older age groups (U15+), ECNL RL tryouts are predominantly invitation-based to ensure a focused evaluation environment.

NPL / Open Tryouts

Open to all players. Used to form our Premier and Select teams in both Roanoke and NRV locations.

Select age groups may offer pre-tryout ID sessions. Check specific age group communications.

Pre-Tryout FAQs

Who can try out?

Any player that is a rising U11 or older. Additionally, rising U10s may register for tryouts in the U11 age group with approval from a director of coaching.

Who has to tryout?

Everyone must register and attend tryouts if you wish to be considered for a VUFC roster spot for the upcoming season. Players must REGISTER to be considered for an invitation to ECNL RL tryouts. Players wishing to play for the NPL must also register but no invitation is required to attend.

Which tryout should I register for?

Register for the highest level of play you are interested in. If interested in ECNL-RL, register for ECNL-RL. If intending on playing NPL, register for NPL. If unsure, mark the appropriate box during registration.

What if I can't attend my tryout?

All players must register. If you can't attend, please fill out the conflict form and someone from our staff will contact you.

How do I change my registration?

How will I know if details change?

The website is the PRIMARY resource. Notifications will be sent via PlayMetrics for any schedule changes closer to the event. Please ensure notifications are turned on for PlayMetrics.

Can I tryout for an older age group?

Players must register and participate with your current age group regardless of current team placement.

What do I need to wear?

Players should wear a black or dark colored t-shirt. A tryout number will be issued to you once you check in.

What do I need to bring?

Please bring a soccer ball with your name on it, water bottle, and shinguards. Shinguards are mandatory.

Arrival & Observation?

Arrive 30 mins early for warm-up. Parents must observe from outside the fence (VA Tech) or behind designated taped areas (Roanoke). No parents on fields.
